In a time where climate change and sustainability are high on the agenda, the financial sector is uniquely positioned to make a positive impact. In this symposium we bring science and practice together to discuss crucial questions on the role of financial institutions in a sustainable future.
The transition to a sustainable world requires large investments with additional financial risks that require not only attention, but also action from banks, policymakers and scientists.
- How can banks make a contribution? What steps are banks taking to promote green finance? And what challenges do they encounter along the way?
- What role and which tools do regulatory authorities have available to promote green financing? How are these tools deployed and are other tools needed in the future? And is there a role for monetary policy here?
The symposium takes place prior to the Dies Natalis (the anniversary of Tilburg University), where Asli Demirgüç-Kunt will receive an honorary doctorate for her groundbreaking work in the field of financial economics, with a particular focus on financial inclusion.
